Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse musical style has earned her the label of "atypical pop star". In the wake of being fascinated by Spanish folk music when she was 13she enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She completed her studies with distinction due to her cover album that she co-produced together with Raul Refree, Los Angeles (2017) and the Baccalaureate Project El Mal Querer (2018). The album reinvented flamenco by combining it with pop and hip-hop. The two singles "Malamente", and "Pienso En Tu Mira" were hugely popular with the Spanish public , and were met with the acclaim of all critics. El Mal Querer, who was awarded the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year and is listed in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time, started Rosalia's rise into the international music scene. [12][13] Rosalia has explored the urbano genre with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", achieving global success. Her third album, Motomami (2022), she introduced reggaeton with an original style, straying slightly from the flamenco sound of the first. The album's lead singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" have caught the attention of international fans and were the most praised album by Metacritic. Rosalia has scored ten number one songs in the course of her career in her home country. It's the highest number for an artist hailing from the region. She also has won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the year awards) and four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other awards. In the year 2019, Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the music of the present day music by introducing a fresh, flamenco-inspired pop",[18and was the first Latino-singing group in the history of music to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammy Awards. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her birthplace was in an unartistic family and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that specializes in metalworking. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They split in 2019. (23). She has an older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) and works with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts as a child and was particularly interested when she came across the discography of Camaron de La Isla. She began her music education at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed six years of study in the academy. She began at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she worked as an independent singer at weddings and bars that were musical, for which she was paid "a just over 80 euros in exchange for dinner". Rosalia also met many underground Spanish artists during this period including La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
